Is it too late to get started mining?

Hi Reddit,
Is it too late for someone to get started mining and turn a decent profit? I am thinking about investing a bit in getting started mining I sat back and watched through the start of Bitcoin and around the time I was thinking about getting started was when mining with video cards started to dwindle and the ASICs were starting to rule the realm. How far out are we before that happens with Dogecoin?
I figure I have a few options if I want to get started.
  1. I have a mini-itx system with a 670 GTX and I could swap that out for a r9 280x for a little over $300 to get my feet wet and start mining. If I can make a profit with it I would move onto building a dedicated mining box.
  2. Build a basic dedicated miner utilizing one or 2 r9 280x cards with a board that supports 4 or 5 graphics cards so if it works out I can always buy more cards with the profits
  3. Build a mining box for $1000-1500 that has as many 280x's as I can fit in the budget.
If it's not too late to get in on this which option would be the best (IE most profitable with the least risk). Also, are any estimates on how long it would take say starting at 1 to make enough to advance to 2 and how much potential profit would be lost starting with 1 vs starting with 2 or 3.
Thanks Doges!

[Build Help] What GPU should i go for?

Hi buildapc
I have my gaming rig which i bought and build around 2008 or so, still works fine, no problem except 2-3 years ago i fried the original mobo in it and had to change the E8500 Wolfdale Dualcore in it to a amd Phenom 2 x6 1045T @ 2,70 GHZ ( i was stranded for cash at that time :( ) So im still rocking a single GTX 260, and honestly while sometime its performance are not the best, the card still impresses me at how well it still respond despite being a century old in pc hardware years, never had a single problem with it. For what i do mostly its actually a good card, main games i play are Dota 2, Civ beyond earth, Starcraft 2 and the likes, all are games that run on a toaster, Do i get the best graphic and FPS? probably not, do i notice the difference or is it that important for what i do? not really. But more and more games are coming out nowadays for dx11 which the 260 is not able to run. Things like Witcher 3 and that monster hunter clone that i want to try. Also Fallout 4 is coming out, not sure if its gonna be dx11 only but i would assume it to be. I dont think a new graphic card would be too much luxury. So here is what im thinking about.
Budget is ~ 250CAD :
R9 280X
GTX 960
GTX 770
R9 380
now the card are placed in what i think is the best to the worst. (i might be wrong and please correct me if i am.)
As you can assume from the first paragraph, i dont upgrade my computer too often so Future Compatibility is an issue for me, if 280x is better but the 960 will be compatible with new Directx for longer, then this may or may not skew my final decision.
also the 280x Seem to be quite the power hog from what i understand, 250Watt vs 160(i think) for the 960. If i remember correctly my PSU is a 1000 watt, but maybe its a 800 Watt, i would have to check for sure. Would i be able to run the card with the current setup i have? (if you need more information about hardware i can oblige)
I also don't plan on playing at 4K, anytime soon. so im wondering what is the benefit for me to have more G of VRAM, most of these card come with 2, 280X with 3, And some model you can find with 4 (for a little Extra) is it has irrelevant for me as i think?
Also BUS Size for Nvidia card seems really small compared to 280X and 380, how does it affect the performance of the card?
i know my processor is not the best, ive never had a problem with it but its still not a great processor, I will upgrade it sooner than latter but i cant upgrade the gpu and the CPU at the same time, it wouldn't be responsible. Now what im afraid of is my CPU bottle necking my GPU performance. will it?
Do they still make Decent CPU with the same socket has the AMD Phenom 2 x6 1045T @ 2,70 GHZ? socket is an AM3
I looked at price on GPU Shack and Newegg.ca, GPU shack has free shipping as long as i pay in Bitcoin (since im in Canada), but alas i never used Bitcoin and im a little uncomfortable with the medium. Newegg tend to run a little more expansive and the shipping is not included but its from Newegg.ca i think it helps with border tax, Not sure tho, i don't buy much online. If you have better option please feel free to tell me, i haven't bought any computer hardware in a long time so im kinda out of the loop.
If i go for the 280X should i try to secure a Toxic... or is the performance boost negligible?
Thanks for the help guys i really appreciate it.
